There was a time when every Derailers album could have carried this title, since the band owes as much to Buck Owens as fellow Austinites Asleep at the Wheel do to Bob Wills. Since the departure of Tony Villanueva and the ascension of co-founder Brian Hofeldt as the band's sole frontman, the music has gotten a little more eclectic, but this return to their Bakersfield roots should delight longtime fans. Whether reviving familiar fare such as "I've Got a Tiger by the Tail" and the pedal-steel weeper "Cryin' Time" or unearthing comparative obscurities such as "Who's Gonna Mow Your Grass," the band from a younger generation than Buck's is more faithful in spirit than concerned with providing a note-for-note recreation. There's as much of a twang in Hofeldt's phrasing as there is in the guitars supporting him. And in the chorus of "Love's Gonna Live Here," you'd swear he's singing "Buck's Gonna Live Here"--and Buck does. --Don McLeese

The Derailers came along in the 90's with a hybrid of Bakersfield country and 60's rock and roll with the end results being astonishing. Big guitars and great songs made them stand out to both country and rock fans. This is music with grit and polish at the same time. Their albums should be essential listening to any music fan but the real treat is seeing them live.
