ABOUT THIS BOOK: In 1929 and 1930, Leslie White, working for the U.S. government, did a large amount of work in and around the Acoma Pueblo and released the first comprehensive study of the Acoma people. The Acoma are historically based in the Acoma Pueblo in New Mexico, one of the earliest continuously inhabited communities in the United States. Released in 1932, White's book covered history, social and political structures, belief systems, lore and tales, handicrafts, technology, and more. As with many government publications, the print run was small. For many years this was a desirable but pricey book.
ABOUT THE NEW EDITION: In the early 1970's, Rio Grande Press became interested in re-issuing White's work. This expanded edition includes a new preface, a new foreword by the author, new introductory material, and 36 color plates, some of which were part of White's original research but were never published in color.
