Yesupadam and the body of Christ in India and around the world

This book is especially about the power of God who still heals the sick, raises the dead, and forgives the sinner. It is about the God of impossibilities, and about vision and obedience. It is about God's work in an ordinary man, and many ordinary people who have met the living Lord Jesus Christ and have discovered that God can accomplish much in anyone who will simply put themselves in the place where He can do His work in and through them. EXCERPT: There he was, sitting in a Christian meeting. He felt for the cigarette packet in his pocket, but thought better of the idea of lighting up inside the meeting arena.
Suddenly he found his attention fixed on the speaker. How strange, he thought, when he discovered the man was highly educated. He had done his masters degree in engineering, at a well known university. He had been a gold medalist.
"What does a man like this have to do with religion," he thought, as he tried to analyze what, to him, seemed so incongruous. The puzzle in his mind had to do with the notion, formulated out of the influences of his past, that intelligent people naturally had no interest in religion. It was for those who could not figure things out for themselves; for those who superstitiously needed the "crutch" of an imagined deity to help them against those forces of life and the world that were greater than they.
"Only those who cannot do anything for themselves lean on God," he had persuaded himself.
There were at least three thousand teen agers at that meeting; students from colleges and universities; medical students, engineering students, and so forth.
Yesupadam might have thought for a moment or two about leaving, but the speaker captivated his attention. The things he was talking about seemed somehow to be extremely practical; seemed to have an application - a fit - with the kind of life he himself had been living.
The topic had been "Christian Youth and Sex," a subject certainly designed to grab the attention of a young man. "Young people," the speaker said, "are being spoiled in their lives...ruining their lives..." In the course of his message he got around to speaking about alcohol, and in so doing hit another nerve. He seemed to be speaking directly to Yesupadam. The message seemed, in his mind, not to be so much about religious things, according to the stereotype he had about "religious things" It was simply about reality.
When the man finished speaking there was a break. Prasanna Kumar had brought a lunch as part of his preparations, and they ate together. Yesupadam smoked his cigarette before returning to the meeting arena for the second session.
The afternoon session was the "practical hour," and dealt even more concretely with practical affairs and the application of the principles of life that had been discussed in the morning session. They had moved forward, and were now sitting in the second row instead of at the back.
Yesupadam's eyes looked up toward the speaker. There, behind him, just over his shoulder, as though suspended in mid air, he saw a man hanging on a cross. He could not make out the face of this man, but it was a man, nevertheless. What he did see, so very clearly, were drops of blood coming down from the man's hands and feet.
At first, he couldn't believe his eyes. Could he really be seeing this? Yet it was there, plainly in front of him. Did anyone else see it? The speaker was continuing as if nothing were happening. No one else seemed to be taking any notice.
Yesupadam continued to stare at the figure on the cross, awestruck by the vision. Now, there were two speakers; the man on the platform, whose voice now dropped into the background, and a new voice - the one from the man on the cross - saying, "Son, I have done all this for you.
